The 727 (non-lockup style) was built from 1962 and on. Notice
how the splines go to the end of the shaft (see Fig. 1
on left). The 727, non-lockup style, is preferred for
performance building.
The A727 (lockup style) was built from 1978-1993. The A727
uses a torque converter with an internal clutch. Notice the
machined area where the clutch inside the converter will seal
(see Fig. 2 on left).
